Who just raised → who's hiring

European hard tech, the last week. A quieter week after June's mega-rounds — but the money that moved went straight into the hardest problems: fusion, chips, motors and autonomy. Here are the Series A and up rounds across European deep tech and hard tech from the past seven days, and who's about to hire, with a careers link for each.

🚨 Just in

Proxima Fusion — €411M

Munich, Germany · Energy / Fusion · 7 Jul · €2.4B valuation (XTX Ventures, East X Ventures, RWE, Google)

Stellarator fusion — the largest private fusion raise in European history, funding "Alpha", Proxima's net-energy demonstrator near Munich. Turning a €2.4B valuation into hardware means a hiring wave: stellarator and magnet engineers, cryogenics leads, VP/Head of Manufacturing, supply-chain and programme directors for the Alpha build. → Careers

The week's biggest rounds

Openchip — €115M

Barcelona, Spain · Semiconductors · 29 Jun · SETT (Spanish state tech-transformation fund)

European full-stack RISC-V chips for AI and HPC; ~300 staff and scaling. Likely hiring: silicon design and verification leads, HPC/SoC architects, VP Engineering, programme management. → Careers

Alva Industries — €16M

Trondheim, Norway · Advanced Hardware / Robotics · 2 Jul · Nysnø, Sandwater, Emerald, Samsung Ventures

Ultra-compact electric motors (patented FiberPrinting) for robotics, defense, aerospace and autonomous systems, scaling manufacturing. Likely hiring: production and industrialisation leaders, process engineers, supply-chain, commercial leads. → Careers

Six Robotics — €12M

Oslo, Norway · Defense / Robotics · 30 Jun · With Norwegian defence partners

Autonomy and swarm software for unmanned systems, 90+ team and growing fast. Likely hiring: autonomy and robotics engineers, ground-control-station leads, defence programme managers, business development. → Careers

Series A breakouts to watch

CCRAFT — $7.8M

Neuchâtel, Switzerland · Photonics / Semiconductors · 2 Jul · CSEM spin-off

The world's first independent foundry for thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) photonic chips — for AI, data centres, quantum and space. Likely hiring: process integration and fab engineers, PIC design/layout, foundry operations leads. → Careers

Wultra — €6.8M Series A

Prague, Czech Republic · Post-Quantum / Cybersecurity · 1 Jul · Expanding globally

Post-quantum digital-identity and authentication for banks and fintechs, growing headcount ~50% a year. Likely hiring: cryptography engineers, security architects, VP Sales, country managers. → Careers

Fusion Bionic — €5.8M

Dresden, Germany · Advanced Materials · 30 Jun · Growth investment

High-speed laser surface functionalisation (biomimetic surfaces up to 100× faster than legacy processes). Likely hiring: laser and automation engineers, production leads, applications and commercial roles. → Careers

Nordic Forestry Automation — €4.3M

Lund, Sweden · Robotics / Physical AI · 29 Jun · SEK 48M · Navigare Ventures, Almi Invest Greentech

Perception and semi-autonomy retrofit systems (lidar + edge AI) for forestry harvesters, expanding globally. Likely hiring: perception and robotics engineers, computer-vision leads, field deployment, sales. → Careers

The pattern

Fewer deals than June, but the ones that closed were pure hard tech — no software gloss. Germany led again on capital, this time through fusion (Proxima's €411M dwarfed everything). The rest clustered around the physical layer: chips (Openchip, CCRAFT), motors (Alva), autonomy (Six Robotics, Nordic Forestry) and post-quantum security (Wultra). The common thread holds — capital raised, now the race is to turn it into working hardware, which is a manufacturing, systems-engineering and commercial-leadership hiring problem long before it's an R&D one.
