Digest · 1 October 2026
European hard tech picked back up this week, and one cheque dwarfed the rest. Bavaria’s Reverion raised a €154.2M ($175M) Series B to build a megafactory and multiply fuel-cell power-plant output tenfold — with up to 800 plant positions attached to it. Milan’s Aptadir Therapeutics took €40M in one of Europe’s largest biotech seeds of the year, Paris robot-vision company Inbolt added €11M to fund a US and APAC push, London’s Foundational left stealth with £8.2M for a satellite laser-ranging network, and Vilnius-based Blackswan Space raised €2.5M to fly its autonomous rendezvous payload. Rounds below, biggest first; the two without a public careers page are named but not linked. Figures as reported — verify on each company’s site.
Eresing, Germany · reverion.com · 29 Sep · reversible solid-oxide fuel-cell power plants
Reverion builds containerised power plants that burn biogas or natural gas at 74.2% electrical efficiency and run in reverse to make hydrogen or synthetic gas — carbon-negative when paired with biogas and CO₂ capture. The Series B, led by Kembara with Allianz, KfW Capital, Aurum Impact and Carbon Equity joining existing backers Extantia, Energy Impact Partners, UVC Partners and the EIC Fund, pays for a German megafactory that takes annual output from roughly 25MW to 250MW, and for the jump to megawatt-class systems. Headquarters headcount has already gone from 100 to over 200, and the company says the new plant will add up to 800 further positions. A tenfold manufacturing ramp with seven plants already running at customer sites and a stated multi-billion project pipeline is the clearest senior-hiring signal of the week: plant and manufacturing leadership, supply chain and procurement, quality and certification, field service, and the commercial leadership to convert that pipeline. → Careers
Milan, Italy · aptadir.com · 29 Sep · RNA therapeutics · no public careers page
Aptadir is building RNA medicines that switch genes back on. Its DiRs platform — DNMT-interacting RNAs — blocks the abnormal DNA methylation that silences a gene, rather than replacing or editing it; the lead candidate, CAP1-FMR1, targets Fragile X syndrome. At €40M it is one of the largest European biotech seeds of the year, led by 4BIO Capital with EXTEND, CDP Venture Capital, Angelini Ventures, Indaco, XGEN, CE-Ventures, Kerna Ventures, Italian Angels for Biotech and Club degli Investitori. The money funds the pipeline and pushes the Fragile X programme toward the clinic. A seed of this size at a preclinical company means the next hires are the ones that make a clinical-stage organisation: medical and clinical development leadership, CMC and manufacturing, regulatory, and business development. Aptadir publishes no careers page, so it is named here but left off the linked list.
Paris, France · inbolt.com · 30 Sep · real-time 3D vision for industrial robots
Inbolt’s GuideNOW gives standard industrial robot arms real-time vision, so they can track and work on parts that are moving or imprecisely positioned instead of needing fixtures and a fixed path. The €11M — led by Shift4Good, with Bridges Climate Transition Partners and existing investors BNP Paribas Développement and Ora Global — takes total funding to €30M since 2019 and funds international growth from its new Detroit office, APAC expansion, and entry into two new sectors: data centres and electronics manufacturing. Automotive customers paid for the first chapter; opening two verticals on two new continents at once is a commercial build-out, which points at regional sales leadership in the Americas and APAC, sector-specific business development, applications engineering close to the customer, and marketing. → Careers
London, UK · foundational.space · 1 Oct · satellite laser ranging · out of stealth
Foundational came out of stealth to automate satellite laser ranging — firing a laser at a retroreflector on a spacecraft and timing the return to fix its position to millimetre precision. Today that is done by a handful of scientific stations; Foundational is building its own retroreflectors, an automated ground-station network and the software layer, and selling the positioning data to satellite operators, insurers and governments. £8.2M at pre-seed is a large first cheque, from Inflection, BACKED, Final Frontier, Adjacent and Type One Ventures, and it funds ground-station rollout, in-house hardware manufacturing and the data platform. The company says it is hiring across software and hardware; a pre-seed building both a manufactured product and a service network usually needs its first commercial and operations leadership early. → Careers
Vilnius, Lithuania · blackswan.space · 30 Sep · autonomous spacecraft navigation · no public careers page
Blackswan Space makes software and a payload — its Mission Design Simulator and RPO Kit — that let a spacecraft perform rendezvous and proximity operations on its own: inspecting, servicing, avoiding collisions, docking, without a ground operator in the loop. The €2.5M, led by Iron Wolf Capital with Lemonade Stand, NGL Ventures and angels including NanoAvionics co-founder Linas Sargautis, takes total funding to €3.2M and funds commercialisation of the RPO Kit ahead of an orbital demonstration in Q4 2027, plus expansion in the US. The team is 25 across Vilnius, London and Denver, and Blackswan is already slated to support ASTRAL, Europe’s first in-space refuelling mission, in 2028. No public careers page, so it is named here rather than linked.
Five rounds, and the money is almost entirely about leaving the lab. Reverion’s €154M is a factory, not a research budget — a tenfold capacity increase and up to 800 plant jobs. Inbolt is buying geography and two new verticals. Foundational is vertically integrating hardware manufacturing at pre-seed, before it has a product in the field. Blackswan Space is funding the orbital demonstration that turns a simulator into a flight-proven payload. Only Aptadir sits upstream of all that, and even there a €40M seed exists to build the clinical and manufacturing organisation that a preclinical platform does not yet have. The recurring HardTech Careers pattern holds: a fresh European deep-tech round is usually the moment the binding constraint moves from engineering to production, qualification, regulatory approval and commercial leadership — and that is where the senior hiring lands. Two of this week’s five publish no careers page at all, which is its own signal about how early these organisations still are.
